General
What is Shashwatamuda?
Shashwatamuda is an initiative dedicated to bringing the wisdom of Yoga, Indian classical music and Bharatiya Shāstras into contemporary life through education, practice, research and community engagement.
What does the name Shashwatamuda mean?
Shāśvata (शाश्वत) means eternal or timeless, and Muda (मुद) means joy or delight. Together, Shashwatamuda means “The Truth of Eternal Joy”.
Do I need prior experience to join a class?
No. Most programs welcome complete beginners. Advanced and therapeutic programs have a short orientation so we can match you with the right group.
Are the programs a substitute for medical treatment?
No. Our yoga therapy and wellness programs are educational and complementary. They are not medical treatment, and we encourage you to continue working with your healthcare provider.
How can I get in touch?
Use the contact page to write to us, or reach us on Instagram and Facebook. We usually reply within two working days.
Getting started
Where are classes held?
Regular classes are held at our Bengaluru centre, with selected programs available online. Camps and workshops travel to schools, colleges and community venues.
How do I start?
Pick a program that interests you, then reach out through the contact page. We will suggest a suitable batch and invite you to a trial session.
About
Is Shashwatamuda a yoga studio?
It is broader than that. Shashwatamuda is a platform for Yoga, Indian classical music, Bharatiya knowledge systems, research and community well-being.
Which traditions does the teaching draw on?
Classical Hatha and Raja Yoga texts, the Carnatic music tradition, and the wider Bharatiya Shāstras, presented in a contemporary and evidence-informed way.
Yoga
What is the difference between regular and therapeutic yoga?
Regular programs focus on general fitness, flexibility and calm. Therapeutic yoga is adapted to a specific health condition or life stage and is practised in smaller groups or one-to-one.
What should I bring to a class?
Comfortable clothing, a yoga mat if you have one, and a light stomach. Mats are available at the centre.
Can I practise pranayama on my own after learning it?
Yes, once the basic techniques are learnt with a teacher. We teach a safe home-practice sequence and review it periodically.
Music
Do I need to know Carnatic music to join Veena classes?
No. Beginners start with foundational lessons (sarali varisai) on the instrument. Vocal basics are introduced alongside.
What is raga-based relaxation?
A guided listening and breathing practice built around specific ragas, used to settle the mind. It is an experiential session and requires no musical training.
Do you provide instruments?
Practice instruments are available at the centre for the first few weeks. We help students source their own Veena when they are ready.
Programs
How long is a typical program?
Regular yoga and music classes run in monthly batches. Workshops range from a single day to a weekend. Instructor development programs run for several weeks.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, for selected yoga, pranayama and music programs. Therapeutic and beginner Veena sessions are best attended in person.
Are there programs for children?
Yes. Children and youth programs combine yoga, music and value education and are run at our centre and in schools.
Wellness
What happens in an individual yoga therapy consultation?
A conversation about your health history and goals, a gentle assessment, and a personalised practice plan that is reviewed every few weeks.
Can institutions book wellness programs?
Yes. We design structured programs for corporates, hospitals, schools and wellness centres. Use the collaborate page to start a conversation.
Research
What kind of research does Shashwatamuda do?
Evidence-informed yoga modules, integrative health studies and yoga therapy research, often in collaboration with academic and healthcare institutions.
Can I collaborate on a study?
We welcome researchers, clinicians and students. Reach out through the collaborate page with a short outline of your interest.
